Eel River Bar First Nation, known in Mi’kmaw as Ugpi’ganjig, is located on the shores of Chaleur Bay in northern New Brunswick, near the town of Dalhousie. Home to approximately 800 members, Ugpi’ganjig is a community defined by resilience, innovation, and forward-looking leadership. Its coastal location provides direct access to fisheries, tourism, and regional trade routes, positioning the Nation as a key economic partner in northern New Brunswick’s ongoing development. The community has established a strong and diverse economic base with successful enterprises in fisheries, aquaculture, construction, and retail, alongside growing investments in renewable energy and environmental management. Ugpi’ganjig’s business development arm, Ugpi’ganjig Enterprises, continues to expand opportunities that generate employment and revenue while maintaining a deep respect for the land and water. The Nation’s focus on education, training, and youth development ensures that future generations are equipped to carry forward its economic and cultural legacy. Eel River Bar First Nation demonstrates that reconciliation in action is achieved through collaboration, shared prosperity, and mutual respect. By working in partnership with government, industry, and business leaders, Ugpi’ganjig is helping to build a more inclusive and prosperous regional economy—one that benefits both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities alike.
