About Community

Ehattesaht First Nation is a Nuu-chah-nulth Nation located on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, approximately 70 kilometres west of Gold River and near the community of Zeballos. The Nation’s remote coastal territory includes forests, mountains, rivers, marine areas and mineral resources that have sustained the Ehattesaht people for generations. Ehattesaht is a member of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council and continues to advance its governance, land-management and economic priorities while protecting its cultural identity and traditional territory. Forestry, clean energy, construction, environmental stewardship, marine resources, mining-related services and community infrastructure represent important areas of economic activity and opportunity for Ehattesaht First Nation. The Nation has entered into forestry consultation and revenue-sharing arrangements and has emphasized the long-term sustainability of forest resources within its territory. Ehattesaht has also participated directly in clean-energy development through an ownership interest in a hydroelectric facility, demonstrating its capacity to pursue community-owned energy projects and strategic investments. Ehattesaht First Nation has significant potential to benefit from carefully planned natural-resource development, renewable energy, infrastructure construction and environmental services. Its remote location creates challenges related to transportation, housing, utilities and access to services, but these needs also create opportunities for investment and partnership.
